Information About the Survey

A White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault was established in January 2014, with a mandate to strengthen federal enforcement efforts and provide schools with additional tools to combat sexual assault on college campuses.

One of the recommendations of the task force was to develop a climate survey to help colleges and universities understand the nature and scope of the problem on their respective campuses. Campus sexual assault is chronically underreported – so victim reports don’t provide a fair measure of the problem. A campus climate survey will contain evidence-based sample questions that can be used to gauge the prevalence of sexual assault on campus, test students’ attitudes and awareness about the issue, and develop strategies to address the problem.
